Winter: confidential Greece
From December to March, Greece enters a largely unknown - yet fascinating - season. On the coast, temperatures remain mild. In the mountains, resorts such as Mount Parnassus or Kalavryta offer an unexpected alternative with skiing, just a few hours from Athens.
The big cities, Athens and Thessaloniki in particular, are adorned with a hushed atmosphere. Museums, galleries, restaurants and historic sites can be discovered without crowds, in an almost meditative calm. This is a more interior, more cultural Greece, reserved for those who take the time.
Some of the islands are still very much alive: Syros, the administrative capital of the Cyclades, Andros and Milos are still bustling with local activity all year round. Santorini, on the other hand, never really dies out. Mykonos, more peaceful, is particularly attractive in spring and autumn.
